Motorcycle Detailing — I Come to the Bike

A bike spends its life collecting what the road throws at it — bugs on the fairing, road film on the forks, dust in every fin on the engine. It is all hand work, and it is work I do where the bike sits, same as I do with trucks. No loading it up, no riding it anywhere.

What I Do on a Bike

The same full treatment I give a vehicle, pointed at two wheels instead of four. Here's what that covers.

  • Full hand wash — tank, fenders, fairings, and every painted surface, done by hand so water stays out of where it should not go
  • Bugs and road grime off the front — the windshield, headlight, and forks are where a bike always takes the worst of it
  • Wheels cleaned, spokes included — that is where most of the time goes on a bike
  • Chrome polished up — pipes, covers, and trim
  • Seat and any leather cleaned and conditioned
  • Engine fins and the tight spots cleaned out, not just rinsed past

What I don't do is mechanical work, dent repair, or bringing pitted chrome back — that is re-chroming, and it is its own trade. Cleaning and protecting what's there is the job, and if I see something a bike shop should look at while I'm working, I'll tell you rather than quietly washing over it.

When Folks Usually Have Me Out

  1. 1

Before the first ride of the season

It has been sitting all winter under a cover, usually in a garage that was not sealed up tight. This is the one most folks want — start the season on a clean bike.

  2. 2

    Before a big ride

A rally, a charity run, a long weekend down to the Ozarks — the bike gets seen on those, and a day of bug splatter comes off easier the cleaner it starts.

  3. 3

    Before you sell it

A clean bike photographs better and shows better, same as a truck. If that is the plan, tell me — I will spend the time where a buyer looks.

What It Costs

A bike is quoted per bike, not off the price list. A small cruiser and a full dresser with hard bags and a fairing are not the same job, so putting one number on a page would be wrong for somebody no matter which number I picked. What I can tell you up front: the same $99 job minimum applies as everything else I do, and a bike is usually the smaller ticket. Tell me what you've got and where it sits, and I'll come look and give you a real number — no charge for that.

If you've got a truck or a car that needs it too, plenty of folks have me do both in the same visit — the interior and exterior detail is priced by vehicle size and that part is on the list. And if the paint needs protecting after it's clean, I'm a certified System X installer and ceramic coating goes on a bike's tank and fairings the same way it goes on a truck.

I appreciate everybody around here who's trusted me with their vehicles, and bikes are the same deal — I'll treat yours like it's mine and tell you straight what it needs. Send me a message and we'll figure out a time.
